Meet the Team

Ulrike Fuehrer

Head of Interpreting, Conference Interpreter (VKD)

Ulrike Fuehrer What's your passion in life?
Winning: winning the trust of those who I care about, winning contracts, new clients, being part of the winning team! No I'm not an adrenalin junkie!

Can you think of a creative thought of the day?
Let's be explorers rather than geographers!
"Your planet is very beautiful," said the Prince. "Has it any oceans?"
"I couldn't tell you," said the geographer.
"But you are a geographer!"
"Exactly," the geographer said. "But I am not an explorer.”

What would people say is your best personality trait?
Oh Jaynee – perhaps my stick-to-it-ness? No wait – that is probably my worst trait!

What or who inspires you?
A walk in the Burren, singing, the change makers I meet each year in Caux at the Initiatives of Change summer conferences, www.iofc.org

What's your favourite dessert?
I'd love to say gorgonzola cheese, but I'm actually a sucker for sumptuous chocolate cakes.

If you could ask anyone, who would you invite to dinner party?
Ida Pfeiffer and Amelia Earhart. I'd grill them about their adventures which were daring, bold and successful and against anything society had in mind for women of their times.

What's your favourite time of day?
Sun rise: the promise each new day holds is so present at that hour of the day, the deck is reshuffled and we get a new set of cards to play with. It's explorer time!

Martin Beuster

Director

Martin Beuster What's your passion in life?
Community building. Once I discovered that there are other equally valid ways of seeing the world, and interacting with it, than mine, and began to get over my ego, I learnt how much we gain when we engage with what is unknown to us, different, strange or even frightening. Sharing good days, success, fun with others as much as difficult days, setbacks and pain is the space where we get to know ourselves and where transformation takes place, of people and of relationships.

What are you curious about?
Other people and their story.

What or who inspires you?
Silence. And music which respects silence.

What's your favourite dessert?
I’m not really a dessert person. I prefer to enjoy the taste of the main plate a little longer. (…and then perhaps have a little exquisite chocolate creation with the espresso.)

If you could ask anyone, who would you invite to dinner party?
Nora and Arvo Pärt, with John Coll and Brendan O’Connor – to return the compliment.

What’s your favourite activity?
Running in the morning; singing in the evening.

What’s your favourite time of day?
The morning! I used to be a night owl though.

Ania Wróbel

Interpreting Project Manager

Ania Wrobel What's your passion in life?
Probably life itself! I do many things – sometimes I think too many. People say I run on Duracell batteries. Well, I like to multitask and I need to love what I do – otherwise I give up easily and move on (my passion for knitting lasted only 6 minutes!). I need to travel and explore to get that extra kick of adrenaline; I need to meet new people and be with people I love; I need to stay active and on top of my toes all the time. But by the end of the day, my sofa is the place I am to be found.

What are you curious about?
I think I've always been curious and it always got me into trouble – from finding out Santa Claus lives two streets down from me to being kidnapped. I think I am bit of a nosy explorer.

What or who inspires you?
At my age it is still kinda difficult to admit it but my parents. They had me in difficult times in Poland. My anti-political Dad taught me to question everything around me and to take nothing at face value. My nonconformist Mum taught me to be unafraid to go after what I want. These two traits have defined who I am. I still look up to them and wonder how they have put up with me till now.

What's your favourite book?
I'm the kind of person who reads whenever on the move. There are too many books to choose a favourite – but one that made me cry laughing was “The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden” by Jonas Jonasson.

What's your favourite activity?
For the time being, undeniably diving!! It is so quiet down there – it is a weird feeling to be able to hear your breath and own thoughts and actually focus on them for more than 20secs. As dolphins and sharks are already ticked off from my list, the biggest dream now is to touch a whale shark!

Are you a dog person or a cat person?
I am definitely a dog person. However, when a dog person needs to agree to something with a cat person, then they are to be the proud owners of a turtle!

Laura Crumlish

Translation Project Manager

Laura Crumlish Can you think of a creative thought of the day?
The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.

What are you curious about?
Life and where it leads us.

What or who inspires you?
I think inspiration is around us all no matter what our circumstances are, but for me especially, it’s when I’m at home with family and friends.

What’s your favourite dessert?
I can never resist tiramisu when it’s on a dessert menu.

What’s your favourite book?
I love all three books in the Millennium series by Stieg Larsson, I can’t choose one!

What’s your favourite activity?
I love hot yoga, it’s the perfect combination of relaxation and exercise for me.

What’s your favourite time of day?
The moment my head hits the pillow (be it morning or night!)

Siobhán Fay

Translation Project Manager

Siobhán Fay Can you think of a creative thought of the day?
'Creativity is contagious. Pass it on.'

What are you curious about?
How people present themselves to the world and how their surroundings, background and interests influence that representation.

What would people say is your best personality trait?
My loyalty.

What or who inspires you?
People who love what they do and others who choose to do what they love. It is not always an easy choice!

What’s your favourite dessert?
Nothing beats a salted caramel macaroon!

What’s your favourite book?
Can I pick three? 'Wuthering Heights' by Emily Brontë, 'The Great Gatsby' by F. Scott Fitzgerald and 'An Béal Bocht' by Myles na gCopaleen.

If you could ask anyone, who would you invite to dinner party?
W.B. Yeats, Máire Mhac an tSaoi and Christine Lagarde. Could Domini Kemp cook and Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers provide the entertainment?

What’s your favourite time of day?
Dusk, there is an air of mystery about dusk; everyone is in transit and it feels like anything could happen.
